Netcdf group,

ncdump with the -bf option does not work correctly in version 4.3.0
(e.g., on yellowstone.ucar.edu). It does not display the fortran-style
indices when printing data. The ncdump command I am using on yellowstone
is /glade/apps/opt/netcdf/4.3.0/intel/12.1.5/bin/ncdump.

I am using /glade/apps/opt/netcdf/4.3.0/intel/12.1.5/bin/ncdump
on ys, which is what I get when I module load netcdf.

The -bf option to ncdump displays the fortran-style indices
when printing data from the netcdf file. I have attached two
files: ncdump.desktop.ncd is from my local desktop (which has
netcdf version 3.6.2), and displays the expected format for the
data var XNARG. The file ncdump.ys.ncd is from the same ncdump
command on the same netcdf file on yellowstone, and does not display
the indices.

Ben,
First, which version of ncdump are you using? Second, looking at the man
page the -b and -f option
seems alternative to me as one provide the brief, the other the full
annotations in the form of a
CDL comment. Please clarify what is your expected behavior and its
documentation.

Davide

Hi Ben,

Sorry for the delay in responding; I was out of the office earlier this
week. This was a known issue, corrected in the 4.3.1-rc5 release and
documented both in the release notes (
https://github.com/Unidata/netcdf-c/blob/master/RELEASE_NOTES.md) and in
our JIRA issue tracking system in detail (
https://bugtracking.unidata.ucar.edu/browse/NCF-275). I would recommend
that the install on Yellowstone be updated to the current version (4.3.2),
although I hesitate to suggest that since I expect we will put out a
release candidate for 4.3.3 next week. Whether you wait for the next
release or stick with 4.3.2, an updated netcdf install will fix the issue.

Thanks, have a great weekend!
